At the beginning of the twentieth century, the development of art history was in the direction of the emergence of abstract currents, the ingenious uses of materials and the attempts of independence from the real world, as a source of themes and ideas. Thus, abstraction reached the final result of purifying the visible world as a beginning to gradually cut the bond between artist and reality. Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944) likened his paintings of musical works and used abstract colors and shapes as tones; in that field his experiences developed until he revealed the possibility of dispensing with natural forms.
From this concept, Serbian artist Jovana Jocic embarked on her experiments, embracing the abstract thought, which is derived mainly from nature. Jovana Jocic, was born in Nis December 8, 1985. She completed her secondary art school in Nis in 2004. She graduated in 2009 at the faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Arts in Nis. At the Department of Design and Fashion Creation. She had several group and one solo Exhibitions of paintings titled “ Reflection “. She was a participant in over 30 Colonies in Serbia and abroad. She has received several awards in the field of Graphic Design. She has distinguished in the fields of drawing, painting, textile and graphic design.
Jovana Jocic, began with the drawing of figures, landscapes and environmental issues, and then the figures and landscapes in later stages turn into mere spaces, organic or geometric, and her abstract paintings became more like the accumulated pieces of paper or with segments of rocks or forms of clouds, that is, merely a rhythmic, interconnected piece that has no direct visual evidence, although it carries inside something of the essence of the artist’s experience.
In general, the abstract doctrine of art in Jovana Jocic’s works seeks to find and express the essence of things in concise forms in which artistic expertise is raised, which has aroused the artist’s abstractness. The word “abstract” in her art works means getting rid of all the effects of reality and its connection to it. The artist Jovana Jocic has succeeded in spreading the spirit in her areas and colors, her squares, rectangles, circles and straight or curved lines, giving it multiple meanings and arranging it according to a certain system. This is evident in her paintings in her exhibition titled “Reflection”. Jovana Jocic also used the art of collage and patchwork, where her art works included newspaper clippings, tapes, colored paper parts, a percentage of other works of art, photographs, and so on. Where these clips are collected and then attached to a piece of paper or canvas. Jovana, also used metal wires, thick threads, fabrics, cardboard and plexiglass surfaces .
The artist Jovana Jocic also produced graphic design, and produced dozens of sketches for fashion designs, characterized by its accuracy, high skill and good taste designs, inspired by the Serbian heritage in a contemporary framework.
The use of color in the art works of the artist has been characterized by full awareness of modern color theories concepts such as contrast, complementarity and harmony, as well as the clarity of the sensation of color and its psychological and perceptual effect on the viewer, where the color carries symbolic connotations that express many of the meanings targeted by the artist.
